Local Architecture

This building is located on 1018 Beech Avenue in McAllen, Texas.  It is on the corner of North 11th Street and Beech Avenue.  My dad and brother used to do yardwork on this site when I was younger.  It has always caught my eye because it reminds me of a castle.  The type of architecture I would say this would be is a Load-Bearing Construction type building.  Also knows as stacking and piling and which is a simple method of making a building and suitable for brick.  This type of construction is stable because all of its weight is concentrated at the bottom.

The building was built in 1918 and was a First Mennonite Baptist Church before it was purchased and owned by a doctor for over 40 years.  It is now owned by someone else that I will keep anonymous.  Now, this building is a banquet hall called the Celestial Room and is now used for Quinceaneras, parties, weddings and meetings.  This building consist of a basement and a upper level, which was the church and now a banquet hall.  I couldn't take pictures inside because I could never arrange a meeting for a tour of the inside.  The main reason for chosing this building was because how it's constructed to look like a small castle or fortress and it is almost a 100 years old.
